Polar Bear Plunge 2017 San Marcos, Texas

At around noon on the first day of January, about 300 people from all walks of life get together on the Texas State University campus, on the banks of the San Marcos river, to jump in and become a Polar Bear. While not quite as exciting as riding your motorcycle on the icy roads of  Northwest Arkansas, it does have something. So I guess you'd have to say that this group is a "7up" chapter. "Same thing only different."  


                                                                                                                                                                                            

It's that you did it, not how you did it that's important.

Today a cold snap hit my little tropical paradise. Suppose to last through the rest of the week. Not really all that cold but I've become a world class Slacker in a record short time. Venturing out is not high on my priority list right now.
 To make all this "forced confinement" bearable I'm going through my bike stuff and repairing or replacing things. My fishing gear is in need of upgrade so I've been making lures for myself and a couple of buddies. They fish the lakes and I fish off bridges.
 These pictured work well on the creeks and other holes of water that I come across in my traveling around. I call them "Mud Bugs."

 This is another of those great relaxing spots in San Marcos.  It even looks like there might be some good fishing in a couple of spots.

 This is along the San Marcos river. Every time I've been on that bridge I'm always amazed at how clear the water is and how it doesn't have that "fishy sort of creek / river smell. This place would be a great camping spot except for a couple of points. 1) It's in the middle of town. (2 It's all fenced off and is part of a restoration program to rebuild the banks that were torn up during the flooding.
The river literally runs across the campus of Texas State University and is always drawing Bikinis pretty much year round. For some travelers that'll be a hazard. But still one of those clean nice places to kill a little idle time.

Polar bear ride 2017

 This years Polar Bear ride was in the area around San Marcos, Texas.
 It was a great day for it in that it was warm, 70 degrees, and sunny and clear. As I am still recovering and rebuilding form surgery, I'm staying in this warmer climate till spring. So when in Rome one simply rides Roman roads.
 The ride was along back roads in Hays County out and away form serious traffic as muscle condition still prevents riding in the fast bumper to bumper in town traffic. It was a good day though. Up on two wheels on a warm sunny day always is.

One of my "girls" turns 40 this year.

"Miss Tilley!"  My 1977 KZ 750 twin, that I bought in original stock condition, 18 years ago from a lady in Oklahoma who's husband didn't like the fact guys whistled at her when she rode around town. They made a compromise and sold both their bikes. I was rather happy he was pissed that I took her old "junker" over his shiny late model V twin.
 This bike, with 97 thousand miles plus/ minus, has literally taken me all over the the Southern United States. Not too shabby for a $700 investment.
